How Much Taller Can Limb Lengthening Make You?
Short answer
In one stage, the femur (thigh) can usually be lengthened by up to 8 cm (3.1 in) and the tibia (shin) by up to 6 cm (2.4 in). Lengthening both bones (quadrilateral) typically gives 12 to 14 cm (4.7 to 5.5 in) in total. Your safe maximum depends on your bones, muscles, nerves and health, and the surgeon sets it after examining you.

Why there is a limit
Bone can grow back well, but muscles, tendons, nerves and blood vessels have to stretch with it. Beyond about 15 to 20% of a bone's length, the risk of the following rises sharply:
• joint stiffness
• nerve problems
• poor bone healing
That is why a responsible surgeon will not promise 10 cm from one bone.
