Going Home After Limb Lengthening: Remote Follow-Up
Short answer
After the lengthening phase in Istanbul, patients return home and send X-rays and videos. The surgeon and our physiotherapist then review them on WhatsApp or by video call. You can message our physiotherapist whenever you need, as often as you need. Remote follow-up is free.
Before you leave Istanbul
• Final X-rays and a check by Op. Dr. Fatih Arslanoğlu
• A written home exercise program
• Medication plan and blood-thinner instructions for the flight
• Transfer to the airport and wheelchair assistance
At home
• X-rays: taken at a local clinic and sent to us at regular intervals.
• Exercise videos: you send short videos; our physiotherapist corrects your exercises.
• Questions: message us on WhatsApp any time.
Who follows you
Remote physiotherapy follow-up is done by our physiotherapist Pt. Suna Gedik. X-rays are reviewed by Op. Dr. Fatih Arslanoğlu.
When to contact us right away
• New numbness, tingling or weakness
• Calf swelling or pain
• Sudden shortness of breath (go to an emergency room first)
• Redness, discharge or fever
Nail removal
When your X-rays show solid bone, usually after 8 to 18 months, the nail can be removed in Istanbul or in your home country. See Nail removal after limb lengthening.
